Champion Winner – Sentry Hill Quark made by Phillippa White

Phillippa is the classic story of a really dedicated girl who wanted to farm and milk her Ewes and then

Ewe have it – make Cheese!

Phillippa who lives in Hawkes Bay gets up early to milk her sheep.  Inside the cheese room and by 8.30am cheesemaking is in progress.  Learning by trial, error and total dedication Phillippa makes such good cheese that she took the only nominated Gold Award on Tuesday evening at the annual NZ Champions of Cheese Awards which is a real achievement and like several past winners intends to become a professional artisan cheesemaker.

Sarah uses Sacco cultures for her cheesemaking.

We are so lucky to have in this country so many individual heesemakers making wonderful cheese so hop down to your local market and give them your support.  Their cheese is worth it!

But wait there is more with seven Silver and ten Bronze Medals awarded to home cheesemakers.

We are  proud of these cheesemakers; their passion and diversity and hope to see more cheese entered in 2017.
